The Bear Facts

SJC Brooklyn hosts SUNY Maritime in their first game at The Hill Center in 42 days. The four-game span saw the Bears earn their first win of the season, an 80-74 defeat of Keystone to claim third place at the York College Invitational. Chris Mikos was named to the All-Tournament team as he averaged 26.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and seven assists at the Invite; including a triple-double of 23 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists against the hosts.

The Bears dropped two Skyline results at the turn of the year. Against South Division rivals Farmingdale State, Mikos pulled 10 boards while Evan Sirakis scored 10 points. Mikos turned in his fifth double-double of the year behind 13 points and 12 rebounds against Mount Saint Mary last Saturday. Sirakis joined Mikos in double figures with 10 points while Richie Simon collected a game-high 13 caroms; his fifth double-figure rebounding game of the season. Mikos averaged 18.8 points and 10.8 rebounds during the four-game road trip. Sirakis, who scored in double figures in each of the four games, registered 11 points per game.

With 20 points and 9.8 boards per outing, Mikos ranks third in the Skyline in both categories. Simon’s 8.5 caroms per contest place him sixth in the conference.

Mikos logged a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double – the first of his career – in a losing effort when the Bears last faced the Privateers back in January 2020.

The Privateer Post

At 3-9 overall, SUNY Maritime enters tonight’s matchup with St. Joseph’s Brooklyn on a four-game losing streak; picking up their most recent triumph over SUNY Canton prior to the new year. The Privateers sit bottom of the Skyline North Division with an 0-6 record in conference play.

In their narrow defeat to Mount Saint Vincent last Saturday, the contest featured 12 ties and 18 lead changes, including a 36-all stalemate at the half. With the Dolphins holding on to a two-point edge with 23 seconds remaining, a pair of missed buckets by Ryan Donovan and a three-pointer off the mark by Griffin McNally saw Maritime drop a heartbreaker, 71-69. Donovan led all players with 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting, 4-of-5 from three-point range, and 6-of-9 from the free-throw line. Theo Noble went a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and finished with 12 points while Jaylin Gray dropped 11 to go with eight assists. Donovan, Noble, and Gray combined for 15 of the Privateers’ 33 rebounds; collecting five caroms each.

Despite missing three games due to injury this season, Donovan leads the team in scoring with 16.7 points per game; good for fifth in the Skyline. Gray’s 14.3 points per outing place him 13th in the conference. Senior Mike Regan (10.3 ppg) rounds out a Maritime trio to score in double figures on the year. Additionally, Gray’s 5.7 assists per game have him second in the Skyline.
