Top 10 Moments: #8 - Softball Rallies From Eight Down, Caps Season With HVWAC Crown

One of Yogi Berra’s most famous quotes was "it ain't over 'til it’s over" and the Softball team lived by this motto on April 1st against Lehman College as they were three outs away from suffering a run rule defeat at the hands of the Lightning before scoring nine unanswered runs in the final three innings that gave themselves a thrilling 13-12 walk-off win.

St. Joseph's trailed 12-4 in the fifth inning before senior Andrea Sideli hit a three-run homer to avert the run rule and after adding two more runs in the sixth, senior Millicia Malvasio drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk in the seventh and senior Mabel Vargas capped the comeback with a drive to the gap in right center that emptied the bases.

The eight-run comeback is the largest comeback in Lady Bears history and the first time St. Joseph's escaped facing a run rule loss in a win.

The historic comeback was the bright spot of the Lady Bears 15-17-1 season as the team had to replace many key starters from a squad that went 27-12 in 2012 and made an appearance in the USCAA National Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

St. Joseph’s capped off their 2013 campaign capturing the HVWAC Invitational Title defeating Yeshiva in the semifinals, 12-0, and Sarah Lawrence in the championship, 14-1. Sophomore Jackie Perillo earned Tournament MVP honors with a career day, finishing a perfect 7-for-7 at the dish with two home runs, eight RBI and six runs scored and earned the win in a combined no-hitter in the semifinals.

The Lady Bears triumph at the HVWAC Invitational was the fifth consecutive won by St. Joseph’s and they have now won 23 straight games in HVWAC play.
