Top 10 Moments: #9 - Men's & Women's Volleyball Grabs HVIAC Runner Up

It was a successful season for SJC Volleyball as both men's and women's squads advanced to the HVIAC Tournament title games, before settling for the runner-up honors in their season finales.

The Lady Bears entered as the No. 1 seed, completing their second straight undefeated league campaign en route to the regular season title.  The road to the regular season title wouldn't be easy, pushed to five sets by Culinary, but they extended their conference win streak to 13 games.

In the tournament, St. Joseph's bypassed Pratt in straight sets in their semifinal to advance to the title game, but ran into a tough New Rochelle team playing on their home court. Despite a game-high-tying 17 kills, 15 digs and six blocks from all-HVIAC middle hitter Lauren GaNun, the fell behind two sets to none before rallying in the third set and falling to a late Blue Angel run in the fourth.

GaNun, fellow all-HVIAC honoree Jennifer Moncino and HVIAC Coach of the Year Kathleen O'Neill will look to capture the title this season on their home court, hosting the 2014 HVIAC Tournament at The Hill Center in late October.

The Bears had their most successful campaign to date, finishing in second place in the HVIAC regular season standings, compiling a 4-2 record in league play and setting a new program record for wins in a season with eight.

In their HVIAC Tournament semifinal versus Webb, St. Joseph's hit a blistering .360 behind all-HVIAC selection Raul Urshela's 15 kills and advanced to their first ever conference championship game. But the Bears saw their four-match win streak end in the finale, falling in straight sets to the No. 1 seed Yeshiva, who captured their third title in five years.
