St. Joseph's Places 17 Student-Athletes on AD3I Fall All-Academic Team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) has announced the names of its 150 student-athletes who have been selected to the 2012 AD3I Fall All-Academic Team. St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) is proud to be represented by 17 of its own student-athletes who were honored by the Association both in the classroom and in their respective field of play.

Leading the six All-Academic honorees from the Hudson Valley's Women's Athletic Conference champion women's soccer team was junior Nicole Farinella the 2012 AD3I Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Independent selection and AD3I Second-Team All-Independent member Cynthia Gambino.

Representing for the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) men's soccer team was leading scorer and AD3I First-Team selection Raul Urshela, also the 2011 AD3I Rookie of the Year. Joining Urshela from men's soccer on the All-Academic Team were two-sport athletes John Moore and Vincent Rossi, who also competed on the cross country team.

Headlining the two women's volleyball team selections is junior middle hitter Megan Moran, an All-Independent honorable mention and a Player of the Week recipient in October.

Cross-Country standouts and AD3I All-Independent honorable mention Joseph Mendez and Teresa Mangan also received All-Academic recognition.

In order to be considered for the award, which was instituted by the Association this season, student-athletes had to be sophomore academic standing or higher and maintain a minimum 3.5 grade-point average for the fall semester that they competed.
