Hill Center Wins Architectural Award

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – St. Joseph’s College’s (SJC) newly constructed Hill Center was selected for a Building Brooklyn Award by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce for architectural excellence in the education category. The award will be presented at the 15th Annual Building Brooklyn Awards ceremony at Kings Theatre on Tuesday, July 21 at 7 p.m.

“The College is honored to have been selected by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce for this prestigious award,” said Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D., president of St. Joseph’s College. “The Hill Center provides the College with the space it needs to grow its enrollment and athletic programs, while at the same time making a noteworthy contribution to the rich architectural landscape of Clinton Hill.”

Designed by Bentel and Bentel Architects and built by the Racanelli Group, the 40,000 square-foot Hill Center is the first new building constructed on the College’s Brooklyn Campus since 1965. Named after the College’s sixth president, Sister Elizabeth A. Hill, CSJ, the Center has a 270-seat, NCAA-regulation basketball and volleyball court and a full cardiovascular and weight training room. Along with these amenities, the facility houses conference rooms, a dance studio, an outdoor terrace overlooking Vanderbilt Avenue, a fully-equipped sports medicine suite and a 90-car underground parking garage.  

Held by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and its Real Estate and Development Committee, the Building Brooklyn Awards is an annual event that recognizes recently completed new and renovation construction projects that enrich Brooklyn’s neighborhoods and economy. The Building Brooklyn Awards  also honors individuals who have made significant contributions toward enhancing the business conditions and economic climate of Brooklyn.
