Over Three-Quarters of Bears Student-Athletes Score 3.0 or Better in Strong Academic Fall

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — While the recent Fall semester saw limited athletic activities and the cancelation of competition, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) student-athletes adapted well to hybrid and remote learning modalities and posted a collective 3.328 grade-point average for the term. 

Individually, 76 percent of Bears student-athletes maintained at least a 3.0 for the semester and nearly half of the student-athletes finished at 3.5 or higher — 67 earning Bears Scholar-Athlete distinction for the 2020 year. Ten student-athletes produced perfect 4.0 GPAs.

In total, 11 teams managed a team GPA of 3.0 or better and seven scored 3.3 or higher. Women's Cross Country led all teams with a 3.650 followed by Women's Soccer with a 3.580 and Softball at 3.575. Men's Volleyball paced the male squads with a 3.374 followed by Baseball with a 3.322.

"Our student-athletes continue to impress! During these unprecedented times they have remained focused and committed to their academics," remarked Director of Athletics and Recreation Margaret Alaimo. "We are so proud of each and every one of our student-athletes. Their resiliency and adaptability in the fall semester are to be commended. We look forward to the time when we can all be together, preparing for a return to intercollegiate competition."
