Summer Spotlight: Maciej Siekierski, Facility Manager/Intramural & Recreation Coordinator

Summer Spotlight: Maciej Siekierski, Facility Manager/Intramural & Recreation Coordinator

We continue with our summer spotlights on our staff with our newest full-time staff member, Maciej Siekierski.

Siekierski rejoined the Athletics Department in February as the facility manager for The Hill Center (set to open shortly) and will also be the intramural and recreation coordinator. In 2010, Siekierski served his first stint with the Athletic Department as the head men's soccer coach and compliance coordinator.

Siekierski will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the new facility, including overseeing the gym schedule and managing the work-study student staff.

About you

Where I went to college and major…

SUNY New Paltz (Business Management) for undergrad and St. John's (Sports Management) for my masters.

How I came to work St. Joseph's…

My long road to St. Joe's had me: selling women's shoes, C.W Post LI with Oscar actually, The New York Jets (spoiler Cowboys fan), and St. John's University before being hired here. P.S my first job with St. Joe's was in 2010 when I coached soccer and did compliance. Wow I rambled.

My dream job is…

I'm hereee lol !!! (Jumping up and down on the top of the steps like Rocky) When I was 18 I wanted to open up a bar and grill on the beach in Santa Monica, Cali (love surfing and the beach)

Summer plans…

Brooklyn 2014, my main plan was/is to get this new facility up and running for all of you to enjoy, t-minus.

A unique/interesting talent of mine…

I can consistently shoot at least 25 over par on any golf course!

On being part of the Bears Family...

What I actually do over the summer with no students around…

Run around The Hill Center chasing contractors, vendors, architects, and anyone that will listen. I also invade Jen's office to use her computer.

Professional goal for the upcoming season…

Make this year truly unique and meaningful for the students and staff of St. Joe's with what The Hill Center will offer. I would also like to get to know the students and staff.

Best Bears/Lady Bears moment…

This year I actually attended the East vs. West games as a VIP Guest (Thanks Pugay). The atmosphere was great and we got the win, take that Patchogue.

Funniest FPC moment…

Oh wow, knowing Frank for 18 years this one is tough. I woke up one morning when we are on an away trip and it must have been 6:00am, when I went downstairs Frank was running on the treadmill 30 mph with smoke coming from the machine. I also always laugh when Frank says "home stretch gang" when we are 8 hours away.

Favorite road trip so far…

Had to be the road trip to Kentucky in 2010 where I got to do play-by-play of the games live.

Favorite place to eat on road trips…

Sheetz, the only place you can get a: bacon, sausage, ham, salami, egg, 3 cheese, avocado, mayonnaise croissant. The name of the place definitely fits the aftermath. TMI ?

If you could switch places with any SJC Athletics staff member, who would you choose and why?

It would have to be Frank, I would love to coach a basketball game.

Dewey Golkin hands down, and Jack P. Calareso (Ok I will stop naming 2, please don't yell Anthony)

Favorite SJC Staff member…

I love all my athletics people so I will go with an outside person, Mike Mcgrann – genuinely funny guy and a great person. I was also on his winning kickball team and he picked me #1 overall so that seals it.

Favorite quote/motto…

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy". – Martin Luther King, Jr.
