Baseball Concludes Season With Loss to USMMA

KINGS POINT, NY – The St. Joseph's College baseball team concluded their sophomore season with a 14-1 loss to United States Merchant Marine Academy.  The Bears finish their season with a 12-21 record improving on the five-wins achieved in their inaugural season.

St. Joseph's scored in the opening frame with Anthony Langone (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) and Jon Mendez (Brooklyn, NY/Xavarian) drawing leadoff walks and Danny Contant(Staten Island, NY/Xavarian) scoring them on a fielder's choice.  The run would be the only run for the Bears as they managed only three hits and struck out 16 times.

The Mariners were powered by David Maywho turned in a 4-for-4 performance with four home runs and nine RBI.  May hit a three-run blast in the first inning to take a 3-1 lead that USMMA wouldn't relinquish.

Langone, Contant and Alvaro Quinones(Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Loughlin) had the only hits for St. Joseph's.  Contant started on the mound and was credited with the loss giving up 11 runs (1 unearned) on 10 hits, striking out four in four innings of work.
