BROOKLYN, N.Y.  St. Joseph's (11-8) looks to bounce back quickly from a loss to the College of Staten Island yesterday when they take on another CUNYAC foe in CCNY Thursday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Randall's Island.

THE BEAR FACTS

Last Time Out: The Bears battled tough, but fell in the ninth inning to Staten Island, 6-5 at MCU Park Wednesday afternoon.

Despite this loss, St. Joseph's is still riding momentum in the search for a second consecutive USCAA Small College World Series appearance, winning five of their last seven games. The Bears come in ranked No. 17 in the latest coaches' poll.

Last week's D3baseball.com Team of the Week selection and USCAA and AD3I Player of the Week Joe Mendez supplies the power in the St. Joseph's lineup, coming in with a .345 batting average along with a team-high five home runs, 15 runs scored and 28 RBIs on the season.

Also providing contributions to the Bears lineup is freshman Nicholas LoPrinzi who leads the team with a .373 batting average and is tied with two other players for second the team with 10 RBIs. Junior Thomas McKenna is having another strong season at the plate, batting .333 with a team-high 17 runs scored and has 10 RBIs on the year.

Anthony DeFillippo and Francis Rapp have stepped up their play in their freshmen season. DeFillippo is batting .381 (8-for-21) with fives runs scored and has driven in two, while Rapp has 10 RBI and has nine runs scored.

Chris Cutrone has put together four wins on the mound, accumulating 19 strikeouts over 22.0 innings. Sophomore Rosario DiLorenzo brings in a 4-1 record on the mound and a 3.94 ERA in five starts.

BEAVER'S DAM

Last Time Out: The Beavers were swept in a doubleheader last time out, losing to fellow CUNYAC conference member Baruch College, 8-2 and 4-1 Sunday afternoon.

Offensively, CCNY is led by Gabriel Pena who leads the CUNYAC with a .447 batting average and leads his team with eight runs batted in. Mike Smith is another contributer, being tied for second in RBI with seven and has hit .389 (fourth in the CUNYAC) over 12 games for the Beavers.

On the mound, Jose Aquino leads the team with a 4-1 record, striking over 21 batters over 26.0 innings pitched with an impressive 2.42 earned run average, good for second-best in the CUNYAC.

DIVISION III WEEK

This week, St. Joseph's College joins approximately 450 Division III schools and nearly 180,000 student athletes in the third annual celebration of NCAA Division III – this season marking the largest division's 40th anniversary year.
