Mendez Dubbed AD3I Player of the Week

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Recognizing his outstanding performance in leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team in home runs and RBI, senior Joe Mendez (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) has been named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) baseball Player of the Week.

Mendez had another strong week for St. Joseph's, hitting .375 (6-for-16) with a team-high two homers and seven RBI as the Bears went 3-1 on the week. The senior recorded a hit and an RBI in all four games for St. Joseph's and scored five runs on the week. Mendez finished the week with four doubles, a .444 on base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage.

The one-time Player of the Week had his best day of the week against John Jay College on Sunday, going 2-for-6 with two long balls, four RBI and four runs scored, eclipsing the 100-run mark as the Bears swept the Bloodhounds.

Mendez takes home the weekly honor from AD3I for the second time this season and joins teammates Chris Cutrone (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees HS) and Mike Cundari (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) as the lone winners of the award. The senior took home Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of March yesterday and swept the weekly baseball accolades back on April 1st.

St. Joseph's (15-8) had their game today at Purchase cancelled due to the rain, but will travel to sister campus St. Joseph's (L.I.) for a single game tomorrow at 4 p.m.
