LoPrinzi Sweeps Weekly Baseball Accolades

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – In recognition of his outstanding performance over the last week in helping lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team to a perfect 4-0 record, freshman Nicholas LoPrinzi (Howard Beach, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) has been named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, while also receiving the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Player of the Week after leading the team in RBIs on the week.

LoPrinzi had a solid week at the plate for St. Joseph's, batting .571 (8-for-14) with a team-high eight RBI while scoring three runs as the Bears swept Drew University and CCNY on the weekend. The freshman had a monster day at the dish at Drew on Saturday, going 5-for-7 with seven RBI, including a career-high five in game two.

The third baseman capped off the week with a 3-for-7 afternoon versus CCNY on Sunday, finishing with three runs scored and an RBI as St. Joseph's improved to 28-9 on the year.

LoPrinzi joins senior Joe Mendez (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) as the only Bears to pick up all three awards in the same week this season with Mendez accomplishing the feat on April 1st.

All three weekly honors are the first earned by LoPrinzi in his brief career and he follows junior Thomas McKenna (Bellerose, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) and Mendez as the lone Bears to receive the D3baseball.com accolade this season.

LoPrinzi also joins junior Chris Cutrone (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees HS), McKenna and Mendez as Bears who have earned weekly recognition from the USCAA with Cutrone earning the Pitcher of the Week twice.

St. Joseph's has now earned eight AD3I Player of the Week awards with Cutrone and Mendez taking home the accolade three times apiece, while senior Mike Cundari (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) garnered Player of the Week honors from the Association in February.

The Bears will head to Springfield, Illinois to take part in the USCAA Small College World Series. St. Joseph's enters as the No. 6 seed and will begin play on Monday, May 12th against No. 3 seed Penn State-Greater Allegheny at 6:30 p.m.
