Baseball Has Three-Game Winning Streak Snapped with Loss to Baruch

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) baseball team could not hold on to an early lead as they dropped a 6-2 decision to Baruch College Thursday afternoon at MCU Park.

The Bears (6-9) got two hits and a run batted in each from Chris Cutrone (Levittown, N.Y./Ocean Trees) and Michael Camerada (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) in a losing effort. Nicholas LoPrinzi (Howard Beach, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) and Domenick Camerada (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) accounted for both runs scored.

Jasdeep Buttar plated two runs, including his CUNYAC-leading third home run of the season, to help lead the Bearcats (7-12) to victory. Nicholas LaForgia also connected on a two-run shot, while Angel Tejada added an RBI of his own. Zachary Uher earned the victory for Baruch, tossing 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball with six strikeouts.

After two scoreless frames from both schools to start the game, the third inning saw St. Joseph's strike first when Cutrone doubled home LoPrinzi to give them a one-run lead. Baruch would counter back with three runs in the bottom half of the frame after a Buttar RBI single and LaForgia's two-run homer to left off Bears starting pitcher Connor Passetti (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside). They would add two more runs to the board in the bottom of the fifth after a Tejada RBI double, and then he would score following two consecutive wild pitches.

St. Joseph's would put the first two batters on base with back-to-back base hits in the top of the sixth. Following a Vinny Rossi (Bayside, N.Y./Holy Cross) sacrifice bunt, M. Camerada would knock in his brother with a single to chip the deficit back down to three runs.

The Bearcats would respond with Buttar drilling a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh. St. Joseph's was not able to piece together a rally in either the eighth or the ninth and Baruch would close out the win.

The Bears look to shake off this loss quickly when they travel on the road to face off with Old Westbury in a doubleheader tomorrow morning. First pitch of game one starts at 11:00 a.m. Live stats will be available on SJCBears.com.
