BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team was held to four hits and the fell below .500 after a shutout loss to New York University on Wednesday afternoon at MCU Park.

How it Happened

  • NYU got on the board with one run in the first inning knocking three straight hits with two outs with Jon Iaione's single proving to be all the run support the Violets would need.
  • The hosts separated themselves with a four-hit, three-run second. Ryan McLaughlin brought all three runs home on one swing, clearing the bases with a single as NYU knocked four straight hits.
  • NYU pitching held the Bears scoreless in the first four innings before their offense erupted for three runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth inning. Adrian Spitz and Jake Smith led the way with two RBI apiece in the span.

  • Ryan McLaughlin (3-for-4, 4 RBI, 2 R, 2B) produced a game-best four runs, while Jake Smith (2-for-4, 3 RBI, R) plated three.
  • Jack Walter (2-for-4, 4 R, 2B) touched home a game-high four times, while Jonathan Iaione (2-for-5, RBI) and Jeremy Wayne (2-for-5, 2 R) also recorded multi-hit performances.
  • The Violets sent out five pitchers who combined for a four-hit shutout. Chad Johnstone earned the victory, allowing just two hits in five innings.
