Luebcke and Rapp Land on Skyline Weekly Honor Roll

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team to a doubleheader split with Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday that punched their ticket to their first Skyline Championships, senior Brian Luebcke (Astoria, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) and Francis Rapp (Baldwin, N.Y./Oceanside) were named to the Skyline Conference weekly honor roll for games played April 25 to May 1.

Luebcke improved to 6-1 on the mound with a three-hit complete game in the dominant 11-1 victory in the opener. In seven innings of work for his league-leading fifth complete game of the season, the senior allowed just one run, striking out three and walking two.

At the dish, Luebcke launched his seventh home run of the season—moving him into a tie for the league lead—and also collected two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored. With the three-hit effort, Luebcke set Bears single-season records for most hits (58), total bases (102), multi-hit games (20) and at bats (150) and tied the single-season record for doubles (19) and multi-RBI games (13).

Rapp belted a team-high-tying five hits on Saturday, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double in the opener. The junior shortstop followed it up with a 2-for-4 effort in game two. Rapp was perfect in the field at shortstop in 11 chances, recording 10 assists and several hit-robbing plays. He finished up the regular season reaching base safely in all 15 conference games he played.

Both Luebcke and Rapp land on the honor roll for the third time this season. Also a three-time Player of the Week and one-time Pitcher of the Week, Luebcke has been recognized by the conference in seven of the eight weekly reports this season.

Setting their sights on capturing their first league title and NCAA Championships berth, the Bears enter the Skyline Championship as the No. 6 seed and head to Throggs Neck, N.Y. to face No. 3 Maritime College on Wednesday, May 4 for a first-round, single-elimination game. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. with live stats available on SJCBears.com.
