Baseball Posts 35 Runs Over Sweep of Yeshiva in Skyline Opener

YAPHANK, N.Y. — Sophomore Adam Schwartz (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) knocked six hits and drove in four runs and freshman Kevin Linitz (Flushing, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) rapped four hits, scored six times with five RBI as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) saw their first action up north, taking a pair of convincing victories over Yeshiva, 13-1 and 22-3, opening Skyline Conference play on Tuesday at Baseball Heaven.

• After Mitch Brigando worked a 1-2-3 inning to open the game, Kevin Linitz belted a single, stole second and later scored on Nicholas LoPrinzi sacrifice fly to give the Bears an early 1-0 lead.
• St. Joseph's tacked on three runs in the second, Adam Schwartz delivering a run-scoring single that brought home Francis Rapp who led off with a walk and Anthony DeFillippo's grounder bringing home Thomas Pallatto who knocked a single earlier in the frame.
• The Bears broke open the game in the fourth, loading the bases twice and scoring five runs on just two hits and aided by a pair of Maccabee errors and several passed balls. A John Condon two-out RBI triple highlighted the inning and pushed the Bears lead to 9-0.
• SJC tacked on pairs of runs in the fifth and sixth innings with Schwartz belting a RBI triple and double in each frame that helped the Bears reach the 10-run threshold.
• Mitch Brigando allowed just four runners in five innings of work to earn his first win of the season. He struck out three and allowed just two hits and two walks.
• Yeshiva got on the board in the sixth and spoiled the shutout with a solo run on a grounder by Shmuli Goldis.
• Schwartz paced the Bears at the plate with a 3-for-4 day with three RBI and three runs scored.
• Condon also finished 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
• Linitz had a multi-hit game (2-for-3) scoring twice with a RBI and two stolen bases.
• Pallato scored four runs and finished 1-for-2 at the dish with a RBI.

• A big nine-run first for St. Joseph's set the tone for a high-scoring affair. The Bears drew four walks in the first eight batters and a bases loaded walk by Jim Kennedy started the scoring. Francis Rapp and Adam Schwartz followed with RBI singles that pushed the lead to 4-0. A Condon two-out, two-run double capped off the frame that saw SJC send 14 batters to the plate.
• The big first inning was more than enough for SJC starter Connor Pasetti who went five innings for the win, striking out four, scattering three hits and two walks to allow one run.
• The Maccabees got on the board in the third plating a solo run but were matched by the Bears in the bottom half with LoPrinzi bringing home one on a sacrifice fly.
• The Bears then used another big inning in the fourth scoring seven runs to take a commanding lead. St. Joseph's knocked six consecutive hits with one out. Michael Camerada's bases-loaded single started the scoring and he was followed by Linitz's bases-clearing triple. Matthew Trudden capped off the hit parade with a single that scored Linitz and the Bears led 17-1 after four.
• St. Joseph's padded their cushion with five more runs over the final two innings, three coming unearned. An M. Camerada double in the sixth brought home two of those runs.
• Yeshiva picked up two runs in the seventh with a mini two-out rally, knocking back-to-back singles and drawing three straight walks, two with the bases loaded, to cut into the final deficit.
• Linitz and Michael Camerada led the Bears both going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Both combined to score seven runs.
• Schwartz knocked a game-high three hits and scored twice.
• Trudden and Rapp also collected multi-hit games with two hits each.
• Eight of the nine starters recorded a base knock and all but one also drove in a run.
