Condon Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District™ Baseball Team

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Recognizing an outstanding sophomore campaign both on the baseball diamond and in the classroom, sophomore John Condon has been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Baseball Team announced earlier today.

Condon collected a team-high 34 RBI while batting a team-leading .432 in his second collegiate season. He also led the team in slugging (.584), knocking 12 doubles, three triples, and a home run.

He becomes the first SJC Brooklyn baseball player—and just the third Bear in any sport—to receive the distinction and advances to the national ballot where the CoSIDA Academic All-America™ teams will be selected later this month.

"I am very proud of John for his hard work not just on the field, but in the classroom," commented Head Baseball Coach Jerry Sidman. "This is a great accomplishment. John is a leader on and off the field."

One of two Bears to play in every game this season, starting in all but one, he opened the season on a 10-game hitting streak and closed out the season on an active 12-game hitting streak, hitting successfully in 28 of 33 games this season.

Batting out of the cleanup position, his .432 batting average ranked third in the Skyline Conference and his 34 RBI placed him fourth. Condon also led the team with 14 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games.  He finished four games this season with four hits, highlighted by a 4-for-5 effort with four RBI in a win over Lehman College.

Robbed of a hit in his final at bat of the season, Condon just missed reaching his milestone 100th hit, knocking 99 hits in 72 games played over his first two seasons.

"John had a tremendous year for our program on the field, and continues to represent his team, our department, and our institution strongly in the classroom," added Director of Athletics and Recreation James Lally. "Being named to this elite academic team is well-deserved for John as he continues to prove himself as a standout student-athlete."

Also named to the Bears Scholar-Athlete Team in January, the Oceanside, New York native who attended Oceanside High School has maintained over a 3.5 cumulative grade point average while majoring in business administration.
