LoPrinzi and Condon Selected First-Team All-Skyline; Camerada Repeats on Second Team
NEW YORK — Three Bears have been named to the Skyline Conference Baseball All-Conference Team for the second straight season with senior Nicholas LoPrinzi (Howard Beach, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) and sophomore John Condon (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) earning a spot on the first team and senior Michael Camerada (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) landing on the second team as announced by the conference office today.
The trio helped St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) to a 9-9 record in league play—tied with three other teams—but finished in seventh place and just one game behind fourth place. The Bears suffered eight losses by just one run and finished with a 14-19 overall mark in the 10th season in program history.
After closing his career as the program leader in games played and started (154) and second all-time in at bats (525), hits (181) and runs batted in (113), Nicholas LoPrinzi receives All-Skyline honors for the first time in his career as a first-team catcher. Appearing in all but one game this season, the senior launched a team-high-tying two home runs and batted .308, fourth on the team, while driving in 29 RBI that placed him eighth in the league. LoPrinzi ended his career on a 17-game reached base safely streak and defensively he committed just one error in 157 chances.
John Condon backs up his selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team announced last week with his first All-Skyline honor as the first-team utility player. One of the hottest hitters in the league, the sophomore posted a .432 average from the cleanup position that was third best in the league and his 34 runs batted in placed him fourth. One of two Bears to play in every game this season, he compiled two separate hitting streaks of 10 and 12 games to open and close the season and led the team with 14 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games. Splitting time between first base, catcher and designated hitter, Condon maintained his unblemished career fielding percentage going error-free in 148 chances this season.
Michael Camerada becomes the first repeat All-Skyline honoree named as a second-team outfielder for the second straight season. He finished his senior campaign ranked third on the team in batting with a career-best .356 average, compiling eight multi-hit games and three-multi-RBI games. Camerada knocked three hits in a game four times this season—twice against Lehman, Staten Island and NYU—and defensively recorded five outfield assists. He closes his career ranked fourth in program history in stolen bases (30), fifth in triples (5) and tied for eighth in home runs (5).
In addition to all their accomplishments on the field, all three were named to the inaugural Bears Scholar-Athlete Team earlier this year and LoPrinzi and Camerada were named to last year's Skyline Academic Honor Roll. (This year's Academic Honor Roll will be announced after the conclusion of the spring semester.)
The all-conference teams are voted on by the Skyline Conference's 10 head baseball coaches based on regular season play.
