Reyes Collects Three RBI as Baseball Falls to Lehman

BRONX, N.Y. —  A big four-run sixth inning cut their deficit in half, but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) couldn't dig themselves out of a big hole dropping an 8-5 non-conference decision to Lehman College on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore Kevin Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./AECI) drove in a pair of runs on a double and another on a sacrifice fly and sophomore Peter Terranova (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) had a strong outing in relief working three near-perfect innings.

How It Happened 

• After the Bears stranded the bases loaded to open the game, Lehman responded with two in the bottom half of the inning assembling a two-out rally with David Rodriguez's double opening the scoring and a Bear miscue allowing another run.
• A four-hit frame in the third had the hosts tack on three and followed with two more on a Nataniel Toribio double in the fifth to build a 7-0 advantage.
• The Bears were held to three hits over the first five innings before erupting for five in the sixth to generate four runs. Back-to-back doubles by Michael Gonzalez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) and Kevin Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./AECI) got SJC on the board and RBI singles from J.J. McLaughlin (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) and Matthew Trudden (Broad Channel, N.Y/Christ The King) trimmed the deficit to three.
• The squads matched each other with solo runs in their next at bats, but the Bears couldn't get the bats going again to cut the deficit further.

For the Bears

• Kevin Reyes was the top run producer with three RBI in a 1-for-2 day with a double and sacrifice fly.
• Peter Terranova (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) worked a near perfect three innings in relief retiring 9-of-10 batters he faced, striking out two.
• Matthew Trudden was the lone Bear to knock multiple hits finishing 2-for-3 with a RBI.
• J.J. McLaughlin also drove in and scored a run in a 1-for-4 day at the dish.
• Anthony Palermo (Patchogue, N.Y./Sachem North) extended his hitting streak to seven games and scored twice.
