Baseball Upended by Mount Saint Vincent in Return to Competition

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — In the return to competition after 372 days, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team (0-2, 0-2 Skyline) dropped both ends of a Skyline Conference doubleheader, 18-1 and 15-6, to the College of Mount Saint Vincent (2-0, 2-0 Skyline) on Sunday afternoon at the FSC Baseball Stadium.

Game 1: Mount Saint Vincent 18, St. Joseph's 1

• The Dolphins scored a solo run in the first and a pair in the second before the Bears got on board with a run in the bottom of the second on a Lucas Collet sacrifice fly to cut the Bears deficit to 3-1.
• But the visitors broke the game open with a crooked 10-run third and SJC were unable to get the bats going all game, held to just one hit, a Thomas Airey single in the second.
• Jake Blinstrub led the visitors with a 5-for-6 day at the leadoff position with three RBI.
• Andrew Monda took the loss for the Bears in the opening day start going 2 1/3 innings with a strikeout and two of his runs scoring unearned.
• Jake McDonald tossed two strong innings in relief in his first collegiate appearance, striking out three and surrendering two hits and his lone run coming across unearned.

Game 2: Mount Saint Vincent 15, St. Joseph's 6

• Mount Saint Vincent raced out to a big lead with seven in an 11-batter first and never trailed again. St. Joseph's got three runs back in the bottom half, loading the bases and pushing runs across with two-out walks from Joseph Grignon, Lucas Collet and Nick Tapio to bring the deficit to 7-3.
• The Dolphins extended to a 10-3 advantage after three at bats and the Bears responded with another three-run frame in the home half of the third. SJC loaded the bases with walks again and Will DeLuca scored on a balk and Michael Santoriello delivered a two-out, two-run single that scored Nick Tapio and Collet but that would be the last the offense could muster for the rest of the game.
• Kevin Reyes led with a pair of hits finishing 2-for-5. 
• In addition to his first collegiate hit and RBI, Santoriello had a strong relief effort on the mound in his first collegiate appearance working six innings, striking out two and allowing three runs.
• Anthony Hernandez collected his first collegiate hit.
• Airey also picked up a hit; the only Bear to knock a hit in both ends.
