Louison Repeats as USCAA First Team All-American, Megafu Receives Second Team Honors; Both Named All-Academic

UNIONTOWN Pa. – At the banquet commencing the 2014 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Basketball Championships, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) junior forward David Louison (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) was named both a First Team All-American and a member of the National All-Academic Team, while sophomore forward Michael Megafu (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) was a Second Team selection and also received All-Academic Team honors.

Louison earns First Team recognition and All-Academic honors for the second consecutive year and was an All-American honorable mention his freshman year. The junior becomes only the second Bear to repeat as First Team All-American and first since Chris DiStefano in 2005 and 2006. Louison becomes the first SJC student-athlete in any sport to concurrently receive First Team All-American honors and All-Academic honors in consecutive seasons.

The forward was a constant force for St. Joseph's all season, averaging a career- and team-high 18.3 points per game (No. 10 in USCAA) and also secured 9.8 rebounds per game (No. 5 in USCAA). The one-time USCAA Player of the Week finished the season with 16 double-doubles (No. 9 in Division III) and shot an impressive 54.4 percent from the floor on the season.

The six-time AD3I and five-time HVIAC Player of the Week led the Bears in scoring and rebounding 13 times apiece and had ten games with 20 or more points. The HVIAC All-Conference Team selection led the USCAA with 210 made field goals and was No. 3 in the USCAA with 265 total rebounds. The junior recorded his 1,000th career point against Brooklyn College with a 30-point outing on January 13th.

Megafu takes home the Second Team All-American honors for the first time in his career after being an All-American honorable mention in his rookie season. The sophomore is also named to the All-Academic Team in his first year of eligibility to receive the honor. The two-time USCAA Player of the Week provided the Bears with a double-double threat each night, finishing with 17 (No. 7 in Division III) on the season. The three-time AD3I and two-time HVIAC Player of the Week averaged a career-high 17.0 points per game and corralled a team-high 10.5 boards per game (No. 2 in USCAA).

The forward finished the season with eight contests of 20 or more points and also notched 15 or more rebounds three times. Megafu had a streak midway through the season of eight consecutive double-doubles which was tied for the third longest in NCAA Division III. The sophomore concluded the season with 283 total rebounds (No. 2 in USCAA) and shot 56.4 percent from the floor.
