Twelve Different Bears Score In Lopsided 100-64 Conference Victory Over Culinary

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team (10-6) improved to 2-0 in HVIAC-play on Saturday afternoon at the Hill Center, cruising to a 100-64 victory over Culinary Institute of America as twelve different Bears got on the scoreboard en route to the team's highest offensive output of the season.

All five starters for St. Joseph's reached double-digit scoring for the first time since the USCAA Nationals on February 28, 2013 vs. Lindenwood-Belleville.

David Louison (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) led the way with his twelfth double-double this year, finishing with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and 10 boards in just 18 minutes of play. Michael Megafu (Jamaica, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) also scored 13 on top of four rebounds and a team-high seven dishes.

Alec Willis (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) stayed hot following Wednesday's career-best performance from the three-point line, connecting four more times from deep en route to 12 points.

Carlos Mayorga (East Elmhurst, N.Y./St. John's Prep) drained a triple with 8:08 remaining in the second-half for his first career points as a Bear. The junior followed that up with another pair of threes en route to 10 points. Francisco Escobedo (El Paso, TX./Santa Teresa) also connected three times from long range, finishing with a season-high nine.

Richard DiPuma (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) chipped in ten more off the bench on top of seven rebounds and a pair of rejections.

The Bears jumped all over Culinary early, establishing their first double-digit advantage less than five minutes into the game after Jamir Archer's (Staten Island, N.Y./CSI/McCown) layup put St. Joseph's up 16-5. With 4:42 left in the first-half, the lead ballooned above 20 after another Archer layup made the score 43-22.

The Bears entered the lockers up 53-34, their largest halftime lead of the season. The second-half was no different as St. Joseph's continued to distance themselves, claiming a 30-point advantage (64-34) three minutes into the half.

Olatunde Bashorun's (Staten Island, N.Y./Port Richmond) free-throw with just 2:28 remaining put the Bears up 100-57, giving St. Joseph's their largest lead of the season while also marking the first time since January 21, 2013 that the Bears have reached the century mark on offense.

The Bears received contributions from top-to-bottom this afternoon, holding a massive 40-15 advantage in bench points. St. Joseph's suffocating defense held Culinary to just 29.6 percent shooting from the floor as the Bears improved to 11-0 in their history against the Steels.

St. Joseph's will look to build on their most lopsided win of the season as they host York (N.Y.) at the Hill Center on Monday, January 19 at 7 p.m. Live stats and video can be found at SJCBears.com.
