O’Neill and Marino Land on Skyline Honor Roll For Fifth Time

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Senior Matt O'Neill (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) and sophomore Destiny Marino (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) were both named to the Skyline Conference honor roll for games played February 1 to February 7 as the league's weekly sports report was released yesterday.

Over a 2-1 week for the Bears (12-10, 9-9 Skyline), O'Neill averaged 19.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He opened the week with 28 points on 8-for-13 shooting with eight rebounds and five dimes in a win over Mount Saint Vincent at home. The senior, who is closing in on the all-time SJC steals record, wrapped up the week with a 19-point, 11-rebound effort in a victory over Yeshiva on Saturday for his third double-double of the season.

Marino, a one-time Player of the Week, averaged 21.0 points and 7.7 rebounds over a three-game stretch for the Lady Bears (7-16, 6-8 Skyline). The sophomore started the week off with a 29-point outburst at home vs. Mount Saint Vincent and paired it with 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. She also set new single-game program records for free throws made (15) and attempted (23). Marino capped the week with 18 points and eight boards in a win over Yeshiva that gave the team a two-game lead for the final Skyline Tournament spot.

O'Neill and Marino both receive honor roll recognition for the fifth time this season.

The Bears are back in action tonight in a "Battle of Brooklyn" hosting Brooklyn College in a non-conference clash. The Lady Bears will play their home finale and celebrate Senior Night on Thursday, February 11 hosting Mount Saint Mary College. Both games will tip-off at 7 p.m. at The Hill Center (212 Vanderbilt Ave.) with live stats and video on SJCBears.com.
