Team to Celebrate Senior Night

The Bear Facts

  • After suffering a loss to Farmingdale on Saturday and with SJC Long Island's defeat of Purchase on Sunday, the Bears now sit outside playoff position and will need a win tonight and some help from Yeshiva and Mount Saint Mary in winning their final two games against Purchase and SJC Long Island to earn a spot in the Skyline Tournament.
  • In the earlier meeting against Maritime in January in Throggs Neck, the Bears used a late surge to pull away in the final minutes and take an 80-69 victory. Matt O'Neill scored 25 points, Jamir Archer netted a then-career-high 22 points with eight rebounds and Michael Murray added 13.
  • Matt O'Neill leads the offense with 18.2 points and assists 4.5 assists, ranked third in the league in both categories. The guard has also been more active on the glass pulling down 26 boards over the last three and lifting his average to 7.1 caroms a game, second on the team.
  • Michael Megafu was named to the Skyline honor roll on Monday for the third time this season. He still leads the league in rebounding (10.4 rpg) and shares the lead in double-doubles with 12, also chipping in 16.0 points a game.
  • Jamir Archer leads the conference with a 56.5 percent field goal percentage and adds 13.2 points a game and 6.4 rebounds and is averaging 19.3 points over the last three.
  • In the game against Brooklyn, Alec Willis drained his 100th career three-pointer. He's hitting 2.3 triples a game (2nd in Skyline) at a 39.4 connect rate.

Megafu Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

  • The senior biology major/chemistry minor with a 3.83 GPA became the second SJC student-athlete to ever receive the honor following his frontcourt mate David Louison '15. He moves on to the national ballot where Academic All-America Teams will be announced later this month.

O'Neill Becomes SJC Grand Theft King

  • With six steals in the game against Farmingdale, O'Neill became the program all-time thefts leader. His 299 career steals leads all active players across all three divisions and he leads the league with 3.2 steals a contest.

Inside the Privateer Ship

  • The Privateers come to Brooklyn in a tie for eighth place coming off back-to-back wins over Mount Saint Mary and Purchase last week. Maritime can claim a Skyline Tournament spot with a win tonight and in their finale vs. Sarah Lawrence but need both Purchase and St. Joseph's (L.I.) to lose their final two games.
  • Two-time reigning Co-Player of the Week Patrick MacDonald enters off a career-high 30-point effort at Mount Saint Mary on Saturday and paces the squad with 15.8 points (#7 in SKY) and 10.0 rebounds (T-3 in SKY) a game and shares the league lead with 12 double-doubles.
  • John Liccese adds 14.9 points a game and dishes out a Skyline-best 5.1 assists a game. Isaiah Hayes rounds out three averaging double figures with 12.5 points and 9.0 rebounds and ranks 2nd in the league in blocks (2.1).
  • Behind Hayes and Macdonald, the Privateers rank 2nd in the league in blocks (4.1) and also rank third in assists (15.6).
