Men's & Women's Basketball Enter 2016 Skyline Basketball Championships as No. 6 Seed

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — In their first season in the league, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's and women's basketball teams have both qualified for the 2016 Skyline Conference Basketball Championships and will enter as the No. 6 seed when first-round play begins on Tuesday, February 23.

While the women clinched their spot in the tournament almost two weeks ago, the men needed to wait three tenuous days after completing their regular season last Wednesday with a 75-60 victory over Maritime College. Needing some additional help from Mount Saint Mary and Yeshiva, the Bears found their ticket punched on Saturday.

In the men's tournament, the Bears (13-12, 10-10) will travel to No. 3-seed Farmingdale State (14-11, 14-6) with the winner headed to Albany, N.Y. to face defending league champions and No. 2-seed Sage (16-9, 14-6). Old Westbury (17-8, 16-4) claimed the top seed in the men's tournament.

On the women's side, the Lady Bears (7-18, 6-10) will travel east to No. 3-seed Old Westbury (20-5, 13-3) with the winner advancing to Riverdale, N.Y. to face No. 2-seed Mount Saint Vincent (17-8, 13-3), also the defending league champions. Sage (20-5, 15-1) earned the top seed in the women's tournament.

Both first-round match-ups will tip-off at 7 p.m. with live stats and video links available on SJCBears.com and updates on Twitter via @SJCBears. Semifinal games will take place on Thursday, February 25th.

The winners of the Skyline Championships will earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Basketball Championships.
