Series History

All-Time Series: Series tied 1-1

Last Meeting: Sage won 88-77 | 2/3/ 2016 | Albany, N.Y.

Bears Upset Farmingdale

  • After needing to wait three days after the regular season ended to find out whether they'd make the Skyline Championships in their first season in the league, the Bears made the most of their opportunity upending Farmingdale State, 78-75, on Tuesday night. The victory came just 10 days removed from suffering lopsided 20-point loss to the Rams on the same floor.
  • In the first round win, the Bears erased a 12-point second half deficit with a barrage of nine three-pointers, after not able to make a single trey in the first half. SJC gained the lead with a 19-4 outburst powered by five treys over five minutes and trailed only momentarily after that.
  • Michael Megafu led four in double figures with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including two threes and grabbed six boards. Matt O'Neill played all 40 minutes and netted 18 points, draining 4-of-9 from behind the-arc, and grabbed six rebounds, dished out six assists and swiped four steals.
  • Jamir Archer added 17 points and secured a team-high eight caroms. Michael Murray added 16 points off the bench, including two cruical free-throws in the bonus with 11.1 seconds left that gave the Bears a three-point cushion.

Gator Bites

  • The Bears will need to bypass the defending Skyline champions to earn their first spot in the Skyline finals. It should prove to be a high-scoring affair as the Bears and Gators rank No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in scoring offense.
  • Although SJC holds a 101-85 victory in their first meeting at The Hill Center, the Gators split the season series with an 88-77 victory at the site of the semifinal showdown and Sage is currently 10-2 at home this season.
  • But the Gators aren't unbeatable at Kahl Gym, suffering an 80-70 loss to Yeshiva in their home finale and suffering an 82-77 setback to Old Westbury to close the season on a two-game skid after winning six straight.

Note for Fans Making The Trip To Albany

What's Next?

  • The winner will move on to the Skyline Championship final on Saturday, February 27 with a chance to win the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship and will face either No. 1 Old Westbury or No. 4 Yeshiva. (If Yeshiva wins, the final may move to Sunday, February 28.)
