Meiner Tabbed Skyline Rookie of the Week

NEW YORK — Averaging 10.0 points and 7.5 rebounds over two games last week, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) freshman Kavan Meiner (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) has been selected the Skyline Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week announced by the league office earlier today.

Meiner opened the week with 12 points and seven rebounds in a losing effort to sibling rivals St. Joseph's College (Long Island) last Wednesday and capped the week with eight points and as many rebounds in a 76-75 victory over The College of New Rochelle yesterday.

For the week, the 6-foot-6 forward, who has started in every game this season, shot 46 percent from the field (6-for-13) and a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. He also collected a pair of assists with a steal.

The weekly honor is the third collected by a Bear this season. Stephane Etheart earned the rookie accolade in week two and Dimitri Sirakis followed it up with the same honor in week three.

After snapping a three-game skid yesterday, the Bears (3-9, 0-4 Skyline) will turn their attention towards the heart of their conference schedule facing the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, January 11 starting at 7 p.m. Live stats and video will be available on SJCBears.com.
