Men’s Basketball Concludes Season with Defeat to No. 24 Yeshiva

NEW YORK — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team concluded their 2021-22 season with an 84-58 defeat to No. 24 Yeshiva University on Saturday night from the Max Stern Athletic Center.

How it Happened

The Bears (3-22, 2-14) possessed a pair of early leads within five minutes from tip but a layup followed by a Ryan Turell triple gave the Maccabees (22-3, 14-2) a 12-9 lead. Despite the hosts' seeing a 21-point advantage with six minutes on the clock, their largest in the frame, SJC used an 11-3 run, fueled by Chris Mikos (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney) and Jalen Gist (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evers Prep), to come within 13 with 247 left in the period. However, YU took their 47-29 margin into the intermission.

Not long into the second half, Yeshiva regained their 20-plus point advantage, beefing it up by as many as 31 with 6:55 left in regulation, 79-48. The final 6:27 saw the Bears outscore the Maccabees, 9-5, as the game ended 84-58 in favor of the nationally-ranked hosts.
