December 12, 2011 Division I NJIT Overpowers Bears NEWARK, NJ – Following their crushing overtime defeat at the hands of St. Joseph’s College, Long Island Saturday night, the Bears schedule didn’t provide any breaks as they traveled to Newark, NJ to take on Division I NJIT. The Bears were able to hang with the home team for a while, but in the end the Highlanders were too much, disposing the Bears 78-50.
December 10, 2011 Bears Lose Overtime Heartbreaker to Golden Eagles BROOKLYN, NY – Forty minutes wasn’t enough to decide the nightcap in the East Meets West tripleheader. The Bears and Golden Eagles needed overtime to declare a winner. The Golden Eagles were able to put up 19 points in the extra five minutes to take the win, 86-77. The loss puts the Bears back under .500 at 4-5 for the season.
December 4, 2011 Bears Open Conference Play with Win at Culinary HYDE PARK, NY – The St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn) men’s basketball team picked up their second consecutive win and fourth overall, defeating Hudson Valley Men’s Athletic Conference (HVMAC) opponent, the Culinary Institute of America, 78-60 on Sunday afternoon. February 7, 2011 Medgar Evers Overpowers Bears; Coleman Named AD3I Player of the Week BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College men’s basketball team hung tough with cross-borough foe Medgar Evers College, but the Cougars broke open the contest in the second half taking a 100-69 victory in a high-scoring, high-flying affair on Monday night at Brooklyn Technical High School.
February 5, 2011 Bears Come Up Empty in Shootout with Albany Pharmacy ALBANY, NY – Senior Donald Coleman (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth) scored a career-high 32 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Bears were staved off by Albany Pharmacy, 93-83. February 3, 2011 Six Bears in Double Figures as St. Joseph’s Routs Gryphons BROOKLYN, NY – St. Joseph’s had a season high six players score in double figures as they improve to 4-1 in the Hudson Valley Men’s Athletic Conference and 6-15 overall with a dominating 98-54 win over Sarah Lawrence. The last time the Bears had six players with 10+ points was just over a year ago to the day, February 1st, 2010, against CCNY.
January 31, 2011 Bears Battle Back, Defeat Vaughn BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s men’s basketball team has made a habit lately of falling behind early before coming back in the end. Their toughness was tested once again, as Vaughn held a 14 point first half advantage, but the Bears never-say-die attitude shone through in a 67-57 victory.
January 29, 2011 Matzelle Scores 1,000th Point; Bears Come Up Short to Berkeley BROOKLYN, NY – St. Joseph’s was 10-0 all time in the regular season against Berkeley College and 8-0 at home. The undefeated streaks ended there though, as the Bears fell to the Knights, 70-69, Saturday night, in a HVMAC contest that came down to the final seconds. Number 20 St. Joseph’s outscored the fourth ranked Knights by 11 in the second half, but was unable to overcome a 13 point deficit and dropped to 4-14 (2-1 HVMAC) on the year.

January 17, 2011 Comeback Thwarted as Bears Fall to Scarlet Raptors BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College men’s basketball team came up short in an exciting 65-57 loss to Rutgers-Camden inside of a frigid Brooklyn Technical High School. Despite the eight point margin and having trailed the final 15 minutes, the Bears gave the Scarlet Raptors all they could handle before ultimately falling to 3-13 (1-0 HVMAC) on the year.
January 23, 2011 Four Players in Double Figures as Bears Handle Culinary BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s men’s basketball team kicked off a stretch of five straight HVMAC games with a convincing win over the Culinary Institute of America, 80-51. Four players scored in double figures and senior Jon Matzelle (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) played 20 minutes in his first game since the January 5th game at the Prudential Center. The Bears improve to 4-13 on the year and are 2-0 in conference play.
January 14, 2011 Bears Snap Eight-Game Skid Defeating CCNY, 73-68 NEW YORK, NY – Sophomore forward Jan Rogowski (Woodside, NY/St. John's Prep) recorded a 30 point, 14 rebound double-double and the St. Joseph's College men's basketball team shot a season-best 48 percent as the Bears defeated CCNY, 73-68, on the road at Nat Holman Gymnasium on Friday night.
January 10, 2011 Bears Stung by Yellow Jackets BROOKLYN, NY – Junior Antoine Forehand (New York, NY/Rice) scored a career high 25 points, but it wasn’t enough as St. Joseph’s fell to the previously winless City Tech Yellow Jackets, 83-64. The loss is the Bears eight consecutive and drops their record to 2-12 (1-0 HVMAC).

December 30, 2010 Bears Tripped Up in Opening Game of Wesleyan Tournament MIDDLETOWN, CT – The St. Joseph’s men’s basketball team opened up the Wesleyan University Red and Black Classic Tournament with a loss at the hands of the host Wesleyan Cardinals, 76-47. The Bears now fall to 2-8 on the season and have lost their last four games.

December 8, 2010 Bears Struck Down by Lightning BRONX, NY – After nearly erasing a 17 point halftime deficit to give Division I NJIT a scare, the St. Joseph’s College men’s basketball team was unable to repeat the same feat as Lehman College ran away with an 82-50 win over the Bears on Wednesday night at The APEX.
December 4, 2010 Bears Comeback Falls Short Against Division I NJIT NEWARK, NJ - Trailing 36-19 after one half, it looked like the St. Joseph’s men’s basketball team was in for a repeat of last season’s 42 point loss at Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). But Donald Coleman (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth) helped bring the Bears back into the game with a 14 point second half. St. Joseph’s would come from behind twice down double digits to get within three and four points, but couldn’t overcome the 17 point halftime deficit and ultimately fell 65-57.
November 30, 2010 Bears Take Care of Pratt in First HVMAC Game BROOKLYN, NY - The Bears kicked off their Hudson Valley Men’s Athletic Conference schedule with a 70-49 victory over the Pratt Institute. St. Joseph’s beat the host Mount Aloysius Mounties on Saturday in the opening round 88-86 and lost to Catholic University of America 43-88 in the championship game on Sunday to capture 2nd Place.

After four straight Hudson Valley Men’s Athletic Conference regular season titles only to repeatedly falter in the championship game, the Bears finally captured the HVMAC title that has eluded them for so long. “Although we finally won last year, the goal hasn’t changed,” says 2008 HVMAC Coach of the Year, Joseph Cocozello. “Our primary goal for this season is to repeat as Hudson Valley Champions.
