JAMAICA, N.Y.— The York College Athletic Program has announced the hiring of
Nolan Adams as the Head Coach of the Cardinals' men's basketball team.
"I am very happy to welcome Coach Adams and his family to York College," said York College Director of Athletics & Recreation, Deneé Barracato. "He is clearly an outstanding coach, and I'm confident he has what it takes to lead our men's basketball program into the top echelon of NCAA DIII teams in our conference and nationally."
Adams is very familiar with the local basketball scene, having coached in several area NCAA Division III schools and NJCAA junior colleges over more than ten years.
Most recently, he was the Head Coach of the Borough of Manhattan Community College where led the Panthers to a 2015 CUNY Athletic Conference title. He was also the 2015 CUNYAC and Region XV Coach of the Year. His team earned 51 wins in just three seasons, and he recruited and coached the 2015 CUNYAC Player of the Year, CUNYAC Tournament MVP, two first-team All-Conference players and eight All-Region players.
Prior to BMCC, Adams was the Head Coach of Polytechnic Institute of New York University from 2011-2013. During his stint, he took a team that had zero wins under the previous staff and brought their win total to 11 the following season. His recruits also earned consecutive Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year Awards. He maintained that position until New York University absorbed the school the following season.
From 2008-2011, Adams was the Associate Head Coach at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, where he served as the head of recruiting and the director of scouting. From 2005-2008, he was the Assistant Coach at his alma mater—St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn)—and helped lead the program to three straight conference championships.
"Coach Adams demands excellence in all that he does and has a keen focus on getting young men to go beyond their limits academically, athletically, and in the community," added Barracato. "He will have an immediate impact not only on our basketball program, but on our entire department." "I admire what he has done at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) and earlier in his career, and I believe he will be a great fit for the York College community. With him on-board I am certainly looking forward to a great season."
Adams has a Bachelor's Degree in Human Relations from St. Joseph's College, where he was also a member of their basketball team. He also holds Master's Degree in General and Special Education from Touro College. Off the court, Adams is a teacher for the New York City Department of Education and works with eighth grade special education students.
