Berkeley Slays Men's Soccer in HVIAC Finale

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer suffered a 6-0 defeat to Berkeley College in their Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) finale at Aviator Field on Tuesday evening.

The Bears (2-9, 2-5 HVIAC) finish in sixth place in the league standings while the Knights (14-3, 7-0 HVIAC) will enter Sunday's HVIAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed and will host No. 4 Vaughn.

Berkeley drew first blood in the 11th minute, Stain Ness finishing a delivery from Abdelwahab Mohamed for the eventual game winner. The duo would connect again for two more quick goals, Ness' hat trick in a span of five minutes putting the game out of reach.

After leading 4-0 at the intermission, Mohamed would score two goals of his own in the opening minute of the second stanza and the 67th minute to finish with nine points.

Berkeley controlled possession for most of the contest and maintained a 43-4 shot advantage. Sophomore Matthew O'Neill (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) fired two of the Bears shots and prompted the lone save for Gustavo Moreno, who walked away with the shutout. Michael Miner (Schenevus, N.Y./Schenevus) made 12 saves in the loss.

The Bears return to the pitch on Thursday, October 24th to face Washington Adventist University in a United States Collegiate Athletic Association road tilt in Fairland, Maryland.
