Men's Soccer Suffers Defeat to USCAA Tournament Qualifier Washington Adventist

FAIRLAND, Md. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team suffered an 11-1 setback to United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament qualifier Washington Adventist University on Thursday afternoon at Fairland Recreational Park.

St. Joseph's (2-10) has now dropped two in a row following their win last Saturday at Webb while Washington Adventist (7-5) celebrates Senior Night by snapping a two-game losing streak which included losses to the No. 1 ranked team in the USCAA in the University of Maine at Fort Kent and Division I member Howard University.

The Bears had no answers for the Shock offense as they were on the short end of a 38-9 shot margin. Washington Adventist used a balance attack with nine different players recording goals.

St. Joseph's was overwhelmed right from the start by the Shock as Zerubabel Beyene got Washington Adventist on the board just over a minute into the action to take an early 1-0 lead. The Shock tacked on five more goals in the opening half before the Bears broke through with their lone tally of the contest in the 36th minute on a shot by freshman Giuseppe Porretto (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) to make it 6-1 heading into halftime.

The second half saw Washington Adventist score just over a minute in taking a 7-1 lead before tacking on four more goals in the stanza to finish off the scoring.

Porretto recorded his third goal of the year and concluded the day with two shots while senior Adam Comollo (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery HS) had a team-high two shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Michael Miner (Schenevus, N.Y./Schenevus) made seven saves in taking the loss.

The Shock were led by Abanda Nkwanyou and Jinmi Ismail each netted two goals combining for eight shots on goal while William Acosta had a game-high three assists. Goalkeeper Daniel Olofinsua stopped two shots in goal to pick up the win.

St. Joseph's concludes their home slate with Senior Night on Tuesday, October 29th playing Medgar Evers with a start time to be announced.
