Urshela Awarded AD3I Male Student-Athlete of the Month

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Junior Raul Urshela (Orlando, Fla./Colonial) was recognized by the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) as its Male Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of October after helping lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team to three wins during the month.

Urshela led the team throughout the month finishing with a team-high six goals and 12 points. The forward also led the Bears with his 29 shots with 16 coming on net and had a flair for the dramatic as he had the game-winner in two of St. Joseph's three wins during October. The AD3I Player of the Week on October 22nd tallied two multi-goal games during the month including a two-goal game against HVIAC foe Webb Institute where he scored both goals in a 2-1 win including the game-winner early in the second half after the Webbies had tied the score up at 1-1.

In his final game of the month against Medgar Evers the junior put up two goals including the deciding goal midway through the second half after the Cougars had tied the score up at 2-2 after trailing 2-0 early. Urshela ended the season as St. Joseph's leading scorer with his eight goals and 16 points on the year and now has 24 goals over his three-year career.

Urshela, a 2011 and 2012 All-Independent First Team selection, becomes the first men's soccer player in school history to receive the award from AD3I.
