First-Half Offensive Surge Fuels Men's Soccer to HVIAC Win Over Webb

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—The St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) men's soccer team erupted offensively in the first half, as four different players tallied two goals apiece in their 11-3 victory over Webb Institute in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at the Aviator Sports and Events Center on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Bears (4-3, 2-1 HVIAC) now have their highest win total in a season during their team's four-year history and the first time the squad has moved over the .500 mark. The league win also moves them into a three-way tie for second place in the HVIAC standings with Berkeley and Albany Pharmacy, and just a half game behind first place Culinary.

The 11 goals also sets a new team single-game record, surpassing 10 scored versus Webb in 2011, and the six assists doubles the previous single-game mark reached four times.

Freshman Pandeli Mano (Bayside, N.Y./Bayside High School), who was named HVIAC Rookie of the Week earlier today, scored two goals, including the game-winner, with an assist, while Beka Goduadze (Tbilisi, Georgia/Lyceum "NK") scored a goal and dished two assists.

St. Joseph's also received two goals each from Louis Williams (Albany, N.Y./Norcross), who received AD3I Player of the Week honors earlier today, Bencion Barrios (Brooklyn, N.Y./SUNY Ulster) and Kyle Johnson (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central).

Raul Urshela (Orlando, Fla./Colonial) extended his all-time goal scoing mark with his 26th career goal for the Bears and distributed an assist. Wilson Fajardo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) scored his first career goal.

The first half saw St. Joseph's put up three quick goals by the 11th minute. After Webb (0-4, 0-3 HVIAC) scored on an Ilya Mouravieff penalty shot in the 13th minute, the Bears would score eight unanswered goals to close out the half with an 11-1 advantage.

Webb would put up the only two scores in the second half, with goals by Gabriel Poritz and Ryan Chozick. Poritz would add an assist for a three-point night in a losing effort.

The Bears dominated the shots in the game, outshooting the Webbies 28-8 throughout the game including a 23-2 advantage in the first half. They also had six corner kicks to Webb's one.

St. Joseph's looks to increase their win streak to three games with a home match against Yeshiva on Monday, October 6th. Start time is 4:00 p.m. at the Aviator Sports and Events Center.
