Barrios Named AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Bencion Barrios (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was recognized by the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) as its Male Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of September after helping lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team to four wins during the month.

This is the first Student Athlete of the Month honor for Barrios, and is the first Bear to win the accolade since Raul Urshela (Orlando, Fla./Colonial) in October 2013. He propelled St. Joseph's (4-4) to a program-best three-game winning streak and four wins for the first time in the team's history during September, tallying three goals and two assists during the month.

Barrios tallied a goal and an assist in his Bears' debut in a victory over the New School on September 11th. The junior was a key contributor in all three games of the team's win streak. He netted the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory at York College on September 25th and dished off two assists in their first ever win over Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) rivals Albany Pharmacy on September 28th. Barrios capped off his first month in a St. Joseph's uniform with a pair of goals in a win over Webb Institute on September 30th.

Currently, he is second in the AD3I with five assists, and tied for third place in the association with 13 total points.

St. Joseph's resumes play at the Aviator Sports and Events Center on Thursday, October 9th for a HVIAC matchup against The King's College starting at 8 p.m.
