Brunengo Named Head Men’s Soccer Coach

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Director of Athletics and Recreation James Lally has announced Adam Brunengo as the new head men's soccer coach.

"We are very excited to welcome Coach Brunengo to the Bears family. Coach brings with him an extensive coaching resume at the collegiate, club, and high school levels and a great pulse for local soccer," remarked Lally. "We are fully confident that Coach will continue to build on the foundation that has been set for Bears soccer and eager to get the fall season started under his leadership."

Brunengo is the third head coach in program history and comes to Brooklyn after a nine-year stint as the varsity boys soccer coach at Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School in East Elmhurst where he led the Crusaders to five CHSAA "A" Division city titles in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.

Prior to taking over at his alma mater, Brunengo was a volunteer assistant coach at C.W. Post (now LIU Post) in 2008. A USSF licensed coach, he has extensive club coaching experience as the pre-academy coach at the Blau Weiss Gottschee organization since 2005 and a two-year stint as the head coach of the N.Y. Pancyprian Freedoms men's reserve team and assistant coach of the first team from 2013 to 2015.

"I'm very excited to join the St. Joseph's College family," said Brunengo on his first collegiate head coaching appointment. "I would like to thank James and all of the staff for the opportunity to help build this program and become a contender in the Skyline Conference."

After a successful high school career at McClancy where left as the program's career assist leader and also led the Crusaders to the CHSAA title in 2000, Brunengo began his Division II collegiate career at St. Thomas Aquinas. He led the team in points and goals his freshman season and earned East Coast Conference All-Rookie Team accolades. After two seasons with the Spartans, he concluded his college career at C.W. Post, helping the 13th-ranked Pioneers to the NCAA Tournament in 2006 and was named captain his senior year, graduating with a bachelors in marketing and management.

Outside of soccer, Brunengo is a Spanish teacher at McClancy and resides in Forest Hills, Queens.

Brunengo and the Bears will open their campaign hosting Hunter College on September 1.
