Kean Hands Men’s Soccer Second Straight Loss

UNION, N.J. — In one of their final three non-conference tilts before Skyline play, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team (1-5) fell 7-1 at Kean University (4-1) on Wednesday night despite sophomore Kenneth Garcia (Elmhurst, N.Y./Bayside) scoring his fifth goal of the season.

How It Happened
Kean was on the offensive firing three shots in the first six minutes before SJC had a single scoring attempt of their own. The hosts got on the board first in the 10th minute as Felipe Lucas beat the keeper one-on-one in the box for a 1-0 lead. Lucas picked up another close range, one-on-one goal in the 18th minute giving Kean early control of the contest.

Jake Santos finished a cross from Lucas in the 31st minute and Lucas secured the hat trick in the 32nd as the Cougars began to run away with the game early. Another Kean tally right before intermission gave them a commanding 5-0 advantage at the half. Garcia found the back of the net in the 53rd minute, but the Cougars tacked on two more scores in the next five minutes to secure a 7-1 victory.

For the Bears

  • Garcia was the main source of offense for SJC leading the team with four shots (2 on goal) and the lone tally.
  • Eric Santiago Torres (Woodside, N.Y./Forest Hills) and Mateusz Georges (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Utrecht) each added a shot on goal.
