USMMA’s Strong Start Sinks Men’s Soccer

KINGS POINT N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team held the United States Merchant Marine Academy to just one second-half goal but dropped a 5-0 Skyline Conference road decision on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened

USMMA  (9-3-2, 5-2-1 Skyline) started off hot, chipping in their first shot attempt, from Wagner Mogga, just five minutes into the match. After 15 minutes of scoreless action, the hosts struck twice in a span of five minutes. The Bears (4-11, 1-5 Skyline) had a good look at in the 32nd minute, but Kenneth Garcia's (Elmhurst, N.Y./Bayside) shot from distance rang off the crossbar and USMMA led 4-0 lead into the half, outshooting the Bears 14-3 in the period.

After the Mariners struck again early in the second half, the Bears defense held the hosts scoreless for the final 40 minutes, but the front line couldn't crack the USMMA defense that leads the league yielding just eight goals in 14 games this season.
