Goduadze and Urshela deliver exceptional performances as Bears drive for HVIAC playoffs

On the eve of the team’s biggest game of the season, St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) men’s soccer players Beka Goduadze and Raul Urshela are coming up big for the Bears.

According to a press release from Anthony Macapugay, St. Joseph Sports Information Director, Goduadze was named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Player of the Week and United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Player of the Week, while Urshela earned the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Player of the Week.

The duo’s impressive play couldn’t come at a better time; tonight at 6 p.m. St. Joe’s (6-6; 2-2 HVIAC) takes on conference foe Berkeley College (5-10; 3-2 HVIAC) as part of a mens/women’s soccer doubleheader at the Aviator Sports and Events Center.

For Goduadze, these are the first two Player of the Week wins in his career and the first time this season a Bear has captured the USCAA honor. Last week the freshman from Tbilisi, Georgia—who leads the Bears this season with eight goals—netted four goals on five shots including his first career hat trick in a 9-2 win over Medgar Evers.

Urshela notched three goals over three games to help St. Joseph’s to a 2-1 mark on the week including two goals in the Medgar Evers win and an insurance goal in a 3-0 win against Sarah Lawrence.
