Bears Tennis Shutout by Brooklyn College

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) men's tennis team was swept by borough rivals Brooklyn College falling 9-0 on Monday afternoon at the Roosevelt Courts.

The Bears (0-6) remain winless on the season while the Bulldogs (1-12) notched their first win of the season.

Freshman Kyle Johnson (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook Central) and sophomore Vinny Rossi (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) teamed up to play the most competitive match at No. 2 doubles, falling 8-4 while sophomore James Hanophy (Albertson, NY/Holy Trinity HS) and sophomore Jeff Bonowicz (Whitestone, NY/Holy Cross) lost 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Rossi played a hard-fought match at No. 4 singles in the longest match of the day before succumbing 6-1, 6-4. Bonowicz took four games in his No. 2 singles match falling 6-3, 6-1.

The Bears return to the courts tomorrow as they take on York College for a road match with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m.
