Orlando's Singles Win Not Enough as Bears Tennis Falls to Pratt

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Pratt Institute in their Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) finale on Tuesday evening at the USTA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Bears (0-9, 0-5 HVMAC) remained winless to their Willoughby Ave. rivals in six meetings all-time. The Cannoneers (6-3, 5-0 HVMAC) completed an undefeated season in league play and will enter Saturday's HVMAC tournament as the regular season champions.

Junior Nick Orlando (Brooklyn, NY/Christ the King) recorded his first career singles victory and the lone win for St. Joseph's on the evening, defeating Jamison Hartley in a tight match at No. 5 singles. Both Orlando and Hartley struggled to break serve throughout the match and after Orlando gained a break at 9-7, Hartley was forced to retire with a wrist injury.

Sophomore Vinny Rossi (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) turned in a strong effort at No. 3 singles falling to David Krawczyk, 10-7.

Sophmores James Hanophy (Albertson, NY/Holy Trinity) and Jeff Bonowicz (Whitestone, NY/Holy Cross) teamed up at No. 1 doubles taking a lead midway through the match, before Fan Mo and Krawczyk rallied to win the final five games for the 8-4 victory.

St. Joseph's closes out the regular season with a road match against Lehman on Wednesday, May 1 at 5 p.m.
