Parr and Orlando Sweep, But Men's Tennis Edged by York

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Sophomore Nolan Parr (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) extended his win streak to four matches and senior Nick Orlando (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) also secured two match wins, but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team was kept out of the win column, falling 5-4 to York College on Monday evening at the USTA National Tennis Center.

After recording his first two career victories yesterday, Parr had convincing victories at both singles and doubles against the Cardinals. Parr teamed up with Kyle Johnson (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) for an 8-2 triumph at No. 2 doubles and the duo of Orlando and Iqbal Husain (West Palm Beach, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens) won by the same margin at the No. 3 flight to give the Bears a 2-1 lead after the doubles competition.

The Cardinals (5-10) took back the lead sweeping the top three singles matches, Johnson dropping a close decision at No. 3 singles in a tiebreaker, 10-9 (10-5). Parr bypassed Elnathan Atwell at No. 4 singles, 10-2, and Orlando prevailed 10-7 at No. 5 singles over Ruel Quamina to level the match at 4-4, but Husain couldn't rally in his No. 6 singles match, falling 10-5 to Shun Ramnauth to give York the victory.

St. Joseph's (0-10) will play their third match in as many days facing Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes Webb Institute on Tuesday, April 29. With the forecast for wet weather, the match has been moved indoors to the Cunningham Park Tennis Center starting at 7 p.m.
