Pratt Too Much for Men's Tennis in Regular Season Finale

FRESH MEADOWS, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team concluded their regular season with a 6-3 defeat to Pratt Institute in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) match at the Cunningham Park Tennis Courts on Friday.

The Bears (2-11, 2-3 HVIAC) find their two-game winning streak snapped by the Cannoneers (6-4, 5-0 HVIAC) who cap an unblemished record in league play.

The regular season champions overwhelmed the Bears limiting them to four games in total. Sophomore Nolan Parr (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) found his team-record eight-game winning streak snapped with a shutout loss at No. 4 singles and he and partner Kyle Johnson (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) couldn't extend their three-match winning streak in doubles play, falling at No. 2 doubles.

Senior Nick Orlando (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) played up from his normal position at No. 5 singles and fell 10-2 in the No. 4 position.

Pratt defaulted the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches and No. 3 doubles match for the Bears lone three points.

St. Joseph's will conclude their 2014 campaign at the HVIAC Championships tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the USTA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center. The Bears concluded the regular season in fourth place in the league standings, the best finish in team history.
