Parr Goes the Distance But Men's Tennis Topped by Sarah Lawrence
QUEENS VILLAGE, N.Y.—The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 defeat to Sarah Lawrence College in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at the Alley Pond Tennis Center.
In the opening doubles session, junior Nolan Parr (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) teamed up with Kyle Johnson (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) at No. 2 doubles falling by a break, 8-6, to Andrea Garibaldi and Aidan O'Brien, as the Gryphons (1-4) went on to sweep all three doubles matches.
Parr nearly grinded out the lone point for the Bears (0-2) at No. 3 singles facing Garibaldi again, dropping the first set, 6-3, before roaring back to take set two, 6-1, but would come up short in the third set super tiebreaker, 10-6.
Freshman Matthew Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) facing O'Brien at No. 4 singles put him to the test dropping the opening set 6-2 but rallied to force a tiebreaker in the second set, getting edged out, 7-6 (7-5).
St. Joseph's is back on the courts tomorrow against borough rivals Brooklyn College starting at 4 p.m. at Roosevelt Courts.
