Parr Victorious in Singles as Men's Tennis Suffers 8-1 Setback at Brooklyn College

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Junior Nolan Parr (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) secured the lone point for the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) in a 8-1 defeat to borough rivals Brooklyn College on Thursday afternoon at the Roosevelt Courts.

With all of the matches already decided in favor of the hosts, Parr grinded out his first win of the season defeating Albert Benjamin at No. 3 singles. Similar to his match last evening, Parr would drop the opening set 6-4, before holding on in the second set 7-5 to force his second straight super tiebreaker in as many nights. In a very tight match, the junior outlasted Benjamin 10-8 in the race to 10.

Freshman Matthew Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) also turned in a strong effort at No. 4 singles falling 6-3, 6-2 to Marvin Gill.

The Bulldogs (4-3) swept the opening doubles matches winning the top two flights at love and the tandem of James Hanophy (Albertson, N.Y./Holy Trinity) and Dickson Tan (Brooklyn, N.Y./East-West School of International Studies) dropping an 8-3 decision at No. 3 doubles.

St. Joseph's (0-3) has over a week off before opening a two-match homestand at the USTA National Tennis Center. The Bears will host sibling campus and future Skyline Conference rivals St. Joseph's College (Long Island) on Friday, April 10 starting at 6:30 p.m.
