Parr Collects First HVIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week Accolade in Five Seasons
BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Recognizing an outstanding week on the tennis courts where he is currently riding a four-match winning streak, Nolan Parr (Red Hook, N.Y./Redd Hook Central) has been named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week for the week ending April 19.
Parr moved up from his No. 3 singles position to No. 2 this past week and compiled a 3-1 record overall in both singles and doubles play.
The junior went undefeated in conference play this week leading St. Joseph's (2-6, 2-1 HVIAC) to victories against Vaughn and Berkeley helping the Bears move up to third in the league standings.
In the league match against Vaughn, Parr took a convincing 10-1 victory at No. 2 singles and teamed up with Kyle Johnson (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) for a 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles.
In the hard-fought 5-4 victory over Berkeley on Sunday, Parr scored the deciding point that gave the match to the Bears with a 10-5 victory at No. 2 singles. Earlier in doubles play, he teamed up with Kevin Caicedo (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) and the duo rallied in the tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles to win 9-7 (7-3).
The Player of the Week accolade is the first in Parr's career and the first for a Bear since the 2010 season.
Parr and the Bears return to the courts today at 4:30 p.m. for a non-conference affair at York College.
