Men's Tennis Battles Brooklyn to Closest Match in Series

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Playing two matches in as many days, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team collected three singles wins and the entire lineup fought hard but fell on the wrong end of a 6-3 decision to borough rivals Brooklyn College on Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened

• The tandem of Kyle Johnson and Nolan Parr seemed poised to put the first Bears point on the board taking an early lead at No. 2 doubles, but were edged out 9-7.
• Alec Smalley and Thomas Kennedy also fell by a break, 8-6, at No. 3 doubles as the Bulldogs swept the pairs session.
• With St. Joseph's falling behind 4-1, Smalley posted the first point for the Bears in a comfortable 6-4, 6-2 win over David Sutton at No. 5 singles, his first time playing in that position.
• Playing his first singles match of the season, Kennedy collected a 6-4, 6-4 win over Travis Burge at No. 6 singles.
• Parr was tested by Adam Zauderer at No. 3 singles, but prevailed 7-5, 6-4 for his third win of the season.
• Johnson cruised to an opening set victory at No. 2 singles, but couldn't hold off Murray Mizrachi on a 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 defeat.

• Parr's win at singles is his 15th of his career, moving him into a tie with Ed Han '10 in second for all-time singles victories.
• The Bulldogs have taken all seven meetings in the intraborough rivalry. The 6-3 deficit matches the closest match in the all-time series, the Bears also falling 6-3 in 2010.
