Ghai and Vaitzman Go Undefeated But Men’s Tennis Nipped By York

JAMAICA, N.Y. — Junior Shivam Ghai (Nairobi, Kenya/International School of Kenya) and freshman Daniel Vaitzman (Port Washington, N.Y. / Paul D. Schreiber) both contributed two points with wins in singles and doubles but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team suffered a narrow 5-4, non-conference loss to York College on Saturday afternoon.

The tandem paired up for a convincing 8-1 win in the top doubles match for the Bears lone point of the pairs session.

Vaitzman cruised to a straight-set win in the No. 2 singles slot, 6-2, 6-3 while Ghai prevailed in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (12-10) in the lead singles match.

Junior Denise Trerotola (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Savior) also won in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7), to add a point to the team tally.

The Bears (1-9) wrap up their season on Tuesday (Apr. 24) hosting FDU-Florham at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
