Bears Drop First Conference Game of the Season

BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph's College men's volleyball team lost their first conference game of the season to Yeshiva three sets to zero. The Bears fall to 0-3 on the season while the Maccabees up their record to 5-3.

St. Joseph's was dropped in straight sets 25-14, 25-7, 25-18. In the first set, the Bears hung with the Maccabees and held a small advantage, 10-9, midway through the set. Yeshiva quickly gained the lead back and never trailed again, taking the set.

Yeshiva dominated the second set, jumping out to a commanding 10-1 lead and cruising to a 25-7 victory. The Bears were able to hang with the Maccabees in the third set, but were always playing catch-up and eventually ran out of the time, dropping the set and the match. The Bears trailed only four, 20-16, but Yeshiva scored five of the last seven points to close out the rally.

Muhammad Ali Bhatti (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) led the Bears with three kills and three digs, while Iqbal Husain (West Palm Beach, FL/Palm Beach Gardens) dished out six assists. Maciej Sadowski (Brooklyn, NY/Cathedral Prep), Raymond Morales (Brooklyn, NY/Lasalle Academy), and Martin Torres (Ozone Park, NY/St. Francis Prep) each had two kills. Sadowski had a team high five points.

Raphael Herskovits finished with games-highs in points (17) and kills (12). Meir Graff handed out 31 assists and Elchanan Margolis finished with eight kills and ten digs.

The Bears look for their first win of the season at home on Friday, February 25th against York. The game will take place at Brooklyn Technical High School, with the first serve commencing at 7:30 pm.
