Urshela and Miner Sweep HVMAC Weekly Awards

BROOKLYN, NY – After receiving two straight Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference men's volleyball Rookie of the Week nods, freshman Raul Urshela (Orlando, FL/Colonial) was named HVMAC Player of the Week and fellow freshman Michael Miner (Schenevus, NY/Schenevus) was selected as HVMAC Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 18th.

Urshela, a middle blocker/outside hitter, and Miner, a defensive specialist/outside hitter, were recognized for their outstanding record-setting performances in the 3-1 victory over Webb last Friday.  Urshela put away a school-record 20 kills and for a stretch from the first set through the middle of the third set, tallied 11 kills on 11 attempts.  Miner had a career-high nine kills, without committing an attack error posting a school-record .563 hitting percentage (minimum five kills).

The play of Urshela and Miner has helped the Bears surpass their combined win total from their previous three seasons.  St. Joseph's (5-10, 3-4 HVMAC) returns to the court on Friday, March 23rd hosting Webb Institute at 7:30 p.m. in the final conference match of the season. A victory would clinch a level .500 record in HVMAC play and a third place finish.
