Men's Volleyball Streak Snapped at Three by John Jay

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team found their three-game win streak snapped against John Jay College falling in straight sets, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17) on Monday night at the Hill Center.

The Bears (4-3, 0-0 HVIAC) wrapped up a four-game home stand at The Hill Center suffering just their second loss at home. Senior Raul Urshela (Orlando, Fla./Colonial) led the Bears attack again with seven kills and three blocks.

Junior Thomas Kennedy (Breezy Point, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) and Taso Kostikas (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) added two kills each as the Bears were held to just 11 kills in the match. Norrin Martinez (Maspeth, N.Y./Holy Cross) dished out eight assists and anchored the defense with 10 digs.

The duo of Nicholas Anderson and Jack Palleschi led the visiting Bloodhounds (5-3), who won their third straight game. Both registered double-double efforts, Anderson with 10 kills, 18 assists and five aces and Palleschi with 11 kills and 12 assists.

The Bears hung tough in the second set trailing by one at the 15-14 mark, before the Bloodhounds went on a 6-1 run to take control of the set. It was the best set of the match for the Bears registering six kills.

The Bears and Bloodhounds will meet again on March 21st at the Doghouse.

St. Joseph's has a quick turnaround facing Medgar Evers College tomorrow night on the road starting at 7 p.m. In their earlier matchup this season, the Bears outlasted the Cougars in the five-set thriller in their season and home opener.
